SC Conference - Activity DetailsParallel File System Benchmarking and Enhancements Primary Session Leader:
Tracey Wilson
(Computer Sciences Corporation)
Secondary Session Leaders:
Over the past 10 years, numerous debates have occurred related to benchmarking of parallel file systems and comparison of metrics for performance. The HPC community lacks standardized metrics that compare these file systems on a similar basis. In an effort to solve this issue, the Avetec's DICE Program is investigating new normalized local and remote HPC file system comparison metrics and is working to build a public domain test suite for performance measurement and validation. The premise is to provide small scale results between file systems with different inherent architectures and evaluate those as the file systems scale. Another key attribute of this benchmark is to evaluate the effect of data fragmentation on file system performance.
This BOF will discuss this test suite, ideas to normalize results for true comparisons of file systems, and additional features like benchmarking removal of data, data purge, file system resiliency, and file system QOS.
