M12: Using and Understanding Parallel NFS (NFSv4.1)

Presenters:
Spencer Shepler  (Sun Microsystems)
Bruce Fields  (University of Michigan)
Tutorials Session
Monday,  01:30PM - 05:00PM
Room TBD
Abstract:
The recently completed NFS version 4.1 protocol includes the Parallel NFS (pNFS) feature, which provides clients with direct access to data, allowing pNFS servers to scale horizontally and to dramatically increase client throughput. This tutorial will explain pNFS and other NFSv4.1 features in detail. Attendees will learn how the protocol is constructed, how to understand client and server behavior, and how to debug and tune implementations. Attendees will leave with sufficient knowledge to install and work with the developer-preview open-source pNFS implementations now available for Linux and OpenSolaris.
