With Flash SSD market revenues expected to grow by more than 200% annually until 2011, NAND Flash-based solid state drives are increasingly used in enterprise storage environments due to the huge advantage in IOPS performance and reduced latency. However, SSD cost remains a major factor and as a result, datacenter managers need to balance cost and performance to achieve lower TCO in solid-state drive implementation. This presentation examines the cost-performance issue by examining different use case scenarios and NAND Flash technology trends that may influence future SSD deployments in servers and enterprise storage.
