Reliable application development is becoming more challenging as the heterogeneity of computing platforms increases. For example, the broader use of GPGPUs, Cell processors, multi-core CPUs and field programmable gate arrays frequently results in situations where technically correct implementations lead to differing solutions as a result of differences in precision and order of evaluation. New strategies are needed to reliably assess the relative correctness of a given implementation across different technology platforms, in preparation of the development of new debugging and verification tools that span the breadth of available technologies. This BOF will bring together software developers and tool developers for a discussion of challenges and candidate approaches that will lead to faster development of increasingly reliable high-performance applications using heterogeneous technologies.
