SC Conference - Activity DetailsHigh Energy Performance for High Performance Computing Primary Session Leader:
William F. Tschudi
(Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory)
Secondary Session Leaders:
Scientific Computing is like race-cars in the automotive world. Often, improvements developed for race cars find their way to the general automotive market. Similarly, knowledge gained in HPC eventually becomes mainstream as general computing moves closer to its high performance relative. With that premise, efficiency gains in computing and the centers housing HPC can have an immense trickle down benefit to the computing market in general.
Given the energy intensity and size of the HPC market, any incremental improvement for the whole HPC community would have large benefits. This Birds of a Feather session will begin the process of organizing a working group where government and industry can push the energy efficiency envelop through sharing of information and wide spread adoption of best practices as well as development of new integrated solutions. Participants will present ideas on how to organize this working group and offer initial concepts for further investigation.
