Thirteen workshops are being planned in conjunction with SC08. Workshops provide attendees with independently planned full-, half-, or multi-day sessions that complement the SC08 Technical Program and extend its impact by providing greater depth of focus. Workshops will be held Sunday and Monday, Nov 16 & 17, and Friday, Nov. 21.

Node Level Parallelism for Large Scale Supercomputers
This workshop focuses specifically on parallelism for multichip, multicore nodes of supercomputers with the goal of gathering the current state of knowledge spanning programming and execution models and scheduling algorithms and articulating effective approaches spanning multiple configurations and application communities.

Workshop on High Performance Computational Finance
This workshop brings together practitioners, researchers, vendors and scholars from the complementary fields of computational finance and high performance computing. The workshop will promote the exchange of ideas, discuss future collaborations and develop new research directions, seeking submissions with a systems-oriented view of the problem, aspects of theory and algorithms, and more practical and infrastructure aspects.

Grid Computing Environments (GCE) 2008
This workshop will examine the impact of Web 2.0 Internet computing technologies such as Ajax, JSON, folksonomies, social networking, mash-ups, REST, RSS/Atom feeds, and other developments on scientific portals and gateways.

This meeting aims to address how to exploit terascale data sets produced from leading-edge scientific simulations by fostering communication between visualization researchers and practitioners, high-performance computing professionals and application scientists.

Power Efficiency and the Path to Exascale Computing
Beginning with a summary of a recent DARPA study highlighting issues associated with exaflops computing architecture, this workshop will inlcude a series of invited talks covering a range of approaches to mitigating the exaflops computing roadblocks, including novel computer architectures, power-aware algorithm design, power efficiency metrics, and power efficient facility design.
3rd Workshop on Workflows in Support of Large-Scale Science (WORKS08)
This meeting will cover a broad range of issues in the scientific workflow lifecycle with emphasis on application experiences and the many facets of workflow management, ranging from job execution to service management and the coordination of data, service and job dependencies.
Workshop on Many-Task Computing on Grids and Supercomputers (MTAGS)
This workshop will cover challenges that can hamper efficiency and utilization in running applications on large-scale systems, such as local resource manager scalability and granularity, efficient utilization of the raw hardware, shared file system contention and scalability, reliability at scale, and application scalability.
Bridging Multicore's Programmability Gap
The goal of this workshop is to bridge the programmability gap between multicore-based systems and current languages, compilers and software development techniques by presenting a broad crosssection of the current landscape of near-term and far-term solutions in languages, new compiler techniques, software development techniques, and emerging multicore architecture and application directions.

Petascale Data Storage Workshop
This workshop focuses on the data storage problems and emerging solutions found in petascale scientific computing environments, with special attention to problem identification, workload capture, solution interoperability, standards with community buy-in, shared tools – all issues in which community collaboration can be crucial.
Advanced Modeling and Simulation for Fission Nuclear Energy
This workshop will address integrated performance and safety code challenges, V&V and UQ, transfer of simulation capabilities from the research to industry, and computational technologies needed to enable the advanced modeling and simulation.

Supercomputing, Multicore Architectures and Biomedical Informatics
The goal of the workshop is to begin the process of building a community of researchers with shared interests in understanding the impact of emerging architectures on computationally demanding biomedical applications, including neuroscience, cardiology, phylogenetics, cancer modeling, computer aided pathology classification, radiology image analysis, and computational anatomy.

High-Performance Reconfigurable Computing Technology and Applications (HPRCTA08)
This workshop will have talks on the latest trends and developments in the field of computing that uses a combination of conventional microprocessors and field- programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), a rapidly evolving computing paradigm that offers the potential to accelerate computationally intensive scientific applications beyond what is possible on today's HPC systems.

4th International Workshop on High Performance Computing for Nanoscience and Technology (HPCNano08)
